Full steam ahead at Tawa College
Over at Tawa College, the weathertightness and strengthening of the old and new gyms are progressing at speed!
In the old gym, we’ve taken out the internal lining and flooring, installed cross braces on all walls with two ground beams tying them together, and are currently putting the internal lining back in. The lower roof was leaking badly – we’ve removed the old roofing membrane, and added solid blocking to the load bearing walls to support the new roof we are building over it.
In the new gym, we’ve stripped the cladding on the south face and are getting the timber, which is rotten, tested. The rotten sections will be replaced, and we’ll install a new cavity system. Some of the lower wall sections will also be replaced with the same system. We’re also cutting in a channel drain at the front entrance to help with drainage, and will be removing the top vent and installing a fresh air system.
