We’re out of the ground at Hanson St site

After some unexpectedly challenging excavation and foundation work earlier in the project, our team has done a great job getting the building out of the ground and building momentum. Late August and September saw the completion of the reinforced concrete walls and blockwork, installation of structural steel, and ground-floor framing. These works set the scene for the Level 1 Traydec floor, with steel decking, reinforcing and in-slab services coordinated ahead of the concrete pour in late September.

Carpentry works kicked off with gusto as soon as the Level 1 slab was poured, with our wonderful Aoraki carpentry team installing pre-nail wall frames and preparing for the first cross-laminated timber (CLT) floor panels. Early October brought the CLT’s big moment, with panels lifted into position and fixed in place to form the Level 2 floor.

We’re now up to Level 2 of the four-level building, and the pace of change onsite has been exciting to watch. Each installation makes the layout of the future homes more visible, as the team works through the framing, structural connections and preparations for the next level.

Behind the scenes, we’re also busy working through the details that will turn the structure into finished homes. Floor finish selections, kitchen designs, brick colours, roof and cladding colours, and feature timber weatherboards have all prompted plenty of discussion. Alongside these decisions, the team is coordinating procurement and upcoming trade work to keep things moving as construction progresses.

Next up is the remaining upper-level framing and CLT installation, followed by roof framing, with the aim of getting the roof on in November. There’s plenty happening, and it’s rewarding to see the hard work of our site team, subcontractors and suppliers coming together as these much-needed Wellington homes take shape.
