This Archaus designed upgrade of the facilities at Armstrong’s in Wellington consists of two parts; the removal of the existing Barker St workshop and its replacement with a modern highly specified version, and an extension of an alterations to the Porsche building on Cambridge Terrace.
The workshop presented some interesting construction challenges, such as the excavation and installation of car service pits in contaminated ground and below the in-ground water level, and the underpinning of the adjacent building’s structure while building new foundations. Those challenges were identified early and solved as a team, alongside Archaus and engineers Silvester Clark. The outcome is a state-of-the-art new facility for servicing the high-end car brands that Armstrong’s support.
The building’s key elements are a concrete slab/foundation, structural steel, Metalcraft Aspire panels for cladding & roofing, precast cladding and interior building services infrastructure.
A critical factor was also to ensure that the adjacent Armstrong’s showrooms and servicing facilities could continue with their business as usual during the works.
