This project was a complete re-build of the upper structure, roof and envelope at All Secure Self Storage in Paraparaumu following a devastating tornado in May 2024 that ripped the building apart.
Aoraki was brought on board early on to assist with assessment of remediation options alongside the consultant design team. A key factor was to achieve a solution that would enable the rebuild works to be completed beneath a massive scaffolded weather protection “tent”, and also enabling the bottom floor to remain operational for All Secures Self Storage’s customers.
The final scope of works involved completely demolishing the roof and level 1 structure down to the level 1 slab, then rebuilding the structure in line with the new design and recladding the building in order to enable the specialist fit-out of the storage space to commence as early as possible.
We broke the project down into 4 areas to enable us to stage the works around the temporary tent and propping structure of this large (3,200m2 footprint) building. To give an idea of scale, we brought in 30 tonnes of new structural steel into the building, and the long run roofing came in at lengths up to 25m long.
