From seismic strengthening to fit out project at Drifter

Just moments after Spectrum Consulting Engineer’s signed off our completion of the seismic strengthening of this 1930 Post Office building, we signed a second construction contract to deliver the Drifter fit out, a unique hotel-hostel accommodation that LA/CO are bringing to Wellington.

We’ve been back on site now since early March and it’s been not-stop ever since.  Our current focus is painting the interior shell to conserve the heritage features of the building.  We’re beginning to frame up the new interior partition walls while off-site procurement of building services is well underway. The new lift shaft roof pop-up is also under construction behind the scaffold tent that you can see from Oriental Bay.

The fit out will provide accommodation & hospitality across nine levels (plus basement) through a combination of bunk rooms & private suites, with bar, full restaurant plus a shared social kitchen, wellness and other common-use spaces. Watch this space as the fit out kicks into action.

We’re super excited to be part of the team bringing Drifter to Wellington and reckon the Drifter vibe is going to really resonate with our cool little capital city.
