Project Manager
We’re looking for a Project Manager to join the Aoraki team delivering a strong pipeline of diverse commercial projects in the Wellington Region. Our project delivery team are focused on delivering high quality commercial construction projects that we can all be proud of, while building strong relationships with clients, consultants, and subcontractors throughout the process. We take a practical and solutions-focused approach to project delivery, driving programme, quality, commercial outcomes, and stakeholder involvement to achieve successful results. We want someone to complement and strengthen our team – what’s important to us is both construction experience and attitude.
Your attitude will include:
- Super organised and highly driven to achieve project targets and deadlines.
- A leader and team player with high levels of integrity and honesty.
- Respectful and appreciative of all people: able to strongly lead and get the best from your team.
- Safety focused, supportive of your team, and committed to achieving great outcomes for our clients.
- Forward-looking and always challenging how we do things – never satisfied with ‘normal’.
Your technical skills and experience will include:
- Managing commercial construction projects from commencement through to completion.
- Programming and coordinating subcontractors, consultants, and suppliers.
- Building and maintaining strong client and stakeholder relationships.
- Managing health & safety, quality assurance, and project compliance.
- Leading project teams while maintaining strong communication and problem-solving skills.
And have an in depth understanding of:
- the Construction Contracts Act (CCA)
- NZS3910 contracts and administration
- commercial construction methodologies and project delivery
- and ideally the Wellington local construction environment.
A bit about Aoraki…
We’re a tight knit team, doing big things!
Aoraki have made a serious impact on the Wellington construction landscape over the last 7 years delivering some pretty cool new buildings in our city. Our projects have included multi-storey entirely new buildings, seismic strengthening and refurbishments, local and central government including schools, heritage buildings, apartments, hotel, industrial buildings and fit out work.
We’re quite different as a Main Contractor because we can deliver small projects right up to the big $50M+ large scale projects – and there are very few in the Wellington market who have this capability.
Aoraki have built up an incredibly capable team, who are super proud of the $250M+ in projects we’ve delivered across the city over the last 7 years. Looking forward, we’ve got a very strong and positive outlook ahead, so have space for an exceptional and like-minded Project Manager to join the Aoraki crew.
Our ‘Golden Rules’ that were set out from day#1 have served us very well: (1) keep it simple & effective – no complicated bureaucracy, no unnecessary overheads, quick decision making; (2) stay in Wellington & work with good people – this is the region we know & love; (3) run a carefully chosen & highly experienced team, have some fun along the way, and give the team our trust to do their jobs; (4) keep everyone close to the action on-site; (5) be grateful, respectful and remember where we started and why we’re doing this – respect our Mana Whenua, our subcontractors, designers and clients who we’ve had support from and who we rely on.
Working with us
He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tangata! He tangata! He tangata!
Recognising this, we offer a great team culture and supportive work environment, as well as a number of employee benefits:
- Southern Cross health insurance plan
- Comprehensive Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) with access to counselling, legal advice, and budgeting support
- A progressive Parental Leave Policy that extends beyond statutory requirements and includes both primary and secondary caregivers
- Annual health checks
- Frequent team events so you can do fun stuff with your workmates outside of work
- Industry body/institute memberships including Building Institute Aotearoa (BIA), National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) and the New Zealand Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NZIQS)
- Wāhine o Aoraki, a space for women in construction to connect regularly in an informal setting and chat about the challenges and experiences on site.
Our philosophies are clean and simple – work in the market we know and love (Wellington!), work in partnership with good people, treat everyone with fairness and respect, work hard, and have a heap of fun along the way!
